There is a new program helping county residents save money on prescription drugs.
County leaders and officials from ProAct announced the Monroe County Prescription Discount Program Tuesday.
Residents who enroll could save an average of 45-percent on drug costs.
This doesn't cost the taxpayers any money. Pharmacies pay for the program themselves and negotiate discounts. They participate in the program because it can bring other benefits.
Mike Maenza of ProAct said, "They know statistically that this program's going to make the difference between getting prescriptions filled or not. Also we know statistically that someone saves $25 on a prescription they're going to spend that $25 on other items in the store that they need."
The program is open to all county residents who want to enroll.
Seniors now enrolled in the county's senior prescription drug program will participate in this program. Letters will be going out informing them of the change.
