Chemung County’s Prescription Drug Discount Card Program Introduces Vision, LASIK and Hearing Discount

ELMIRA - ProAct, Inc., administrators of the Chemung County Prescription Drug Discount Program, have recently expanded their discount program to include discounts on Vision, LASIK and Hearing services. Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli announced today the new benefits will be available to all existing and new participants of the program. "The program will continue to operate free of charge to all county residents through the existing partnership with ProAct, Inc., a Pharmacy Benefit Management Company," said Santulli.
Vision - Participants will now receive the following discounts on Eye Exams, Frames, Lenses and Contacts:
- Exe Exams - Up to 20% off the usual and customary fee
- Frames - Up to 50% off the retail price
- Lenses - Up to 50% off the retail price
- Online - Up to 20% off the retail price

ProAct cards are free, and may provide significant savings for the uninsured and underinsured. They may be used by all County residents, regardless of age, income or existing health coverage. They may also be used for medications for pets, and most recently, vision and hearing products, including Lasik surgery as listed above. Most pharmacies in Chemung County accept the ProAct cards, as do 57,000 pharmacies nationwide.
Since ProAct cards were first mailed to County residents in November of 2009, over 3,000 claims have been made by more than 1,500 county residents with savings exceeding $74,000, an average saving of 40% per prescription.
