Erie County ProAct Cards Already Delivering Big Savings

Erie County Home

May 6, 2010

In the first two weeks since ProAct prescription discount cards were mailed out in Erie County, taxpayers are already seeing significant savings. According to ProAct, 491 Erie County residents used their new prescription discount cards between April 20 and May 4. Over that two week period, participants saved $19,547.10 on prescription medications, with an average savings of 43 percent.

Erie County Executive Chris Collins partnered with ProAct, Inc., a division of Kinney Drug, to help defray the costs of prescription drugs for County residents. Discount prescription drug cards were mailed to thousands of Erie County residents in every community.

The cards are free, and may provide significant savings for the uninsured and underinsured. They may be used by all County residents, regardless of age, income or existing health coverage. They may also be used for medications for pets, vision and hearing products, including Lasik surgery. Most pharmacies in our area accept the ProAct cards, as do 57,000 pharmacies nationwide.

ProAct printed and mailed the cards.

"I'm thrilled to hear this program is already such a success in Erie County," said County Executive Chris Collins. "I'm hopeful this news will encourage more taxpayers to take advantage of these free cards to save money on prescription drugs. Once again, I think it's important to note this program comes at absolutely no cost to the County."

Any resident of Erie County is eligible to participate in this program. If you did not receive a ProAct card in the mail, you may contact ProAct at 1-877-776-2285 or visit www.nyrxdiscountcard.com to get a card. Cards are also available at most participating pharmacies.
