It sounds almost too good to be true, but Albany County is now offering prescription drugs for a fraction of the cost.

The county, announced a new card program Monday.

The card can give holders up to 20% off on brand name drugs and up to 70% off on generics. It is available to all county residents, regardless of age or income, to be used at any Albany County pharmacy.

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin the program is a big relief for those without insurance.

"For those people who don't have coverage, for those people who might have just lost a job for example, this is an important opportunity to get a prescription drug card that will be mailed out to all households in the county that we can possibly identify," says Breslin.

However, the card cannot be combined with current prescription plans, so users will have to ask their pharmacist about which plan will have the cheapest prescriptions. More than 128,000 of the cards have already been mailed out to residents.
