History
ProAct is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kinney Drugs, Inc., an ESOP company headquartered in Gouverneur, NY. Kinney Drugs was founded in 1903 by Burt Orrin Kinney in Gouverneur. Incorporated in 1927, the healthcare company is currently comprised of 95 stores in Upstate New York and Vermont.
ProAct was incorporated in 1999, after operating as Kinney Managed Care Services for six years. ProAct is a full service pharmacy benefit management company with a reputation for exceptional service, and a focus on the education of its members to manage healthcare costs.
In 2004, ProAct opened its own mail order service, Health Direct Pharmacy Services. Health Direct is located in Gouverneur, NY and is the sole mail order pharmacy located in New York State. Health Direct has routinely exceeded its goal in claims turnaround time every year since its inception.
Our annual member satisfaction survey has given Health Direct a 99% member satisfaction rating every year since 2004.
Today, our client base is made up of universities, municipalities, hospitals, corporations, not for profit organizations, long term care facilities and financial institutions in addition to the NYS Department of Corrections and the NYS Office of Child and Family Services, which in total, represent over 2 million lives. ProAct is endorsed by the New York State Association of Counties and by the Iroquois Healthcare Alliance.
